Lenguajero.com is an online language learning community for Spanish and English learners. Members can practice and share their knowledge of these two languages with other learners from around the world.
We provide our members with three effective learning tools. First, Lenguajero connects learners for online conversations (using an embedded voice, video, and text chat app.) so that they can practice speaking their new language with a native speaker.
Second, our interactive Writing Club helps users improve their writing skills; daily assignments are submitted to, and corrected by other Lenguajero members.
And finally, we offer a "smart" flashcard program that integrates with the other two core features. The program teaches members new words and phrases, and tracks their progress in order to tell them what to study and when to study it to ensure that they quickly memorize new material.
The entire project has been bootstrapped while living and traveling in Colombia, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Mexico. Lenguajero was built using google app engine, and we used 99designs.com to outsource our design work. The rest of the project has been developed by the two of us and our now very beaten-up laptops.

Natalie Gordon - Co-Founder and All Things Technical Natalie graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Mathematics in Computer Science. Before co-founding Lenguajero, Natalie worked for Amazon.com for four years where she built highly scalable systems. After graduating, Natalie traveled through Mexico and Guatemala where she discovered that despite taking a year of Spanish at university she had no clue what anyone was saying to her. Five years later and after countless lessons, conversations, and friendships she is still prone to calling sheep (ovejas) brooms (escobas) when playing Settlers of Catan.
