Thank you :)
you would say "you and I" before the verb
and "you and me" after the veb
ex) you and i ARE going to dinner. this secret IS between you and me.
Most Americans do not know the difference. I hear them saying "This is between you and I." Since they do not understand grammar, they choose to say "I" even when it is the object of a preposition, requiring the objective or accusative case. They are taught that it is polite to put the other person in front of the word "I", for example: "My friend and I always go to the park." But the problem is that they think this is a fixed expression which cannot be changed, so they retain the "I" instead of changing it to a "me" when necessary. If you ask them if it sounds good when you say, "This hamburger is for I.", they will tell you that it is wrong. However,"This hamburger is for my friend and I." is perfectly correct in their view.
I like Crisnaida's answer. I find that a good way to get it correct fast is to - in your mind - elimate the "you" part of the sentence.
Example: You and I are going to the movie. If you drop the "you", would you say "I am going to the movie" or "Me am going to the movie." You would say "I", so that is what fits in the sentence.
An opposite example: The doctor gave Tom and me a strict diet to follow. It must be "me" because you would not say "The doctor gave "I" a strict diet to follow."
In the usa "you and me are friends" is commonly used but it is not correct English. It should be YOU AND I ARE FRIENDS They also say "I am good" instead of I am well. It is American English
Of course you will say He gave it to me (NOT to I)
Buenas, muchas gracias por la explicación crisnaida, a mí me ha quedado muy claro.
En español es parecido, puedes usar "tu y yo" como sujeto en las mismas frases que pusiste de ejemplo.
En cambio para usarlo como objeto indirecto se pone "a ti y a mí": "El doctor nos examinó a ti y a mí"
¡Hasta pronto!
"I" is a subject pronoun in english....example....you and I went to the store; you and I had a good time...."you and I" is the subject of the sentence.
"me" is a direct object pronoun in english...example....he'll ask you and me; the doctored examined you and me; he gave the books to you and me....."you and me" is a compound direct object....the last of my examples is where "you and me" is used as a compound indirect object...but is also the proper usage.
Solo recuerde que "I" es un sujeto...si puedes usar la frase "you and I"...esté sugero que estás usandola para el sujeto...
Es igual en castellano?
