Halloween

It's almost the end of October, and for many of us that means Halloween! While Halloween has its origins in Christian celebration of All Saint's Day, it has become a popular holiday that is celebrated in many parts of the world.

Do you celebrate Halloween in your country? If so tell us what you like to do to celebrate. If you don't celebrate Halloween in there a similar holiday this time of the year that you do celebrate?

Here in Mexico the day of the dead is celebrate set up an altar on which is placed a photograph of the deceased along with some special dish that liked . It is also common to make jokes at people through rhymes that have to do with death. In some places people go to the cemetery to visit their dead relatives to clean the place, spend part of their day eating and praying. I believe that our traditions are very nice on this day because it combines spirituality with humor

In Spain, my country, people don't usually celebrate Halloween. Maybe, in some spanish cities, there are some people who has taken that party from EE.UU. and, that's why, they celebrate this party. They often dress up as different ways and have a party. But this custom has not become general all over Spain.

However, in my city, Badajoz, in the mid of February, people celebrate the Carnival. We usually dressed up as our favourite celebrities and make the party in the street. There are other known spanish cities where people make the carnival: Tenerife, Las Palmas, Cádiz, etc.

  • Writing about Halloween:

    Hi, Gari.

Yesterday I had the oppportunity to read your topic about Halloween…and I would like to tell you that the Costa Ricans do not celebrate that holyday.

But on November first, we celebrate The Day of the Dead.
We usually visit the cemeteries. We clean the graves of our dead ancestors, and add lots of flowers around the graves.

Families also pray and chat together.

It is a kind of meeting where all the families celebrate those whose have died.

    Have nice dreams, dear Gari,

    from Costa Rica,

    Julie.

  • Writing about Halloween:

I recall that during my youth,we never celebrated that day,but like somebody knows, things change with the pass of the time.Nowadays, the new generations like to celebrate it with much enthusiasm, children mainly, although sometimes the adult people like to make parties by using fancy dress.I assume that the dealers were who impose such custom in order to get more gains. So,for me,this one is a normal day like any other.
